Sacred and profane concept by durkheim 1-2

In his book elementary e form of religious life 1912.

Secret things are isolated and protected by powerful introductions. Profane must remain at a distance from the sacred. religious rights are rules on how to behave in the presence of sacred things.

Every religion has certain object symbols maxims as sacred. the objects themselves are not secret but society attributes them sacred as a result of the collective conscience. Holy water is Holi because people believe so.

Secret features. Aruntas study. Churingas.

Totem is sacred for the clan. even marking and object with the emblem makes the object sacred. They have to be kept apart from propane. Churingas object head healing powers, bring fertility and strength. The totem and the clan itself are secred. The clan feels close kinship ties with the animal and killing it is forbidden accept on ceremony.

There are sacred spaces at specific locations. Sacred time. Religious and profane life cannot coexist at the same time.
